thumb.aspx I have been on a two-week break and I am back to continue preaching the biotechnology gospel — at times to the chagrin of some — but then last week’s announcement on a breakthrough in the fight against the deadly Maize Lethal Necrosis Disease (MLND) by our eminent scientists, just vindicated me and many other believers in science and technology as the most lethal tool against food insecurity. According to International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIYMMT) and Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (Kalro) — the two organisations whose scientists are the heart of development of the Bt and drought resistant maize varieties, which are set for commercial release — the new varieties H12 ML and H13 ML “are a major step towards curbing the impact and spread of MLND virus”.
